Students have read the book, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. After completing a text-rendering protocol, they had a guided discussion on the true meaning of the text. Students were guided by key discussion phrases to help facilitate their conversation.

The class read the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. After completing the book, they looked for a sentence, phrase, and word that represented the true meaning, the big idea of the book. The students then sat in a circle and stated these words in a round. This was followed by a discussion.
